An Attitude of Gratitude – Final Take
Greetings,
Rounding out 2018 with a third and final month on gratitude. In previous months I shared thoughts on choices, choosing a grateful heart, and making a positive difference in situations within our control. This reflection brings to mind Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, understanding the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future were also about choices.
In choosing a grateful heart I am reminded of how my past has shaped my present, good, bad and otherwise. It is important to recognize we are who we are, we are where we are, because of our life experiences, but more importantly due to our choices. It is in our present we can (and should) reflect on those experiences and choices and use them to influence our future. The past is just that…and if there are things from it we don’t like, those ghosts don’t need to travel with us into the future. If there are parts of it we love and want to relive, we can revel in the memories and will them forward into the present. Bring them forward not with a resentful heart because they are no more, but with feelings of gratitude because of having experienced them to begin with. Yes, we always have a choice. Choose wisely because your future depends on it.
